Making A Recipe For Homemade Aloe Vera Gel

The medicinal value of the Aloe vera plant is well known. The succulent aloe vera leaves contain a healing gel that soothes and eases the pain of minor skin irritations, burns, injuries and irritations.

Individuals who wish to make their own recipe for homemade Aloe vera gel can easily grown their own Aloe vera plant in a clay pot with well drained soil set on a sunny window sill. In warm climates, Aloe vera can be grown outdoors without fearing that the plant will die in winter's frost.

Anyone who does not have the space or natural light in their home to grow their own Aloe vera plant, but who still wants to use their own recipe for making homemade Aloe vera gel can usually find Aloe vera leaves in a supermarket or health food store. One leaf is sufficient to make a quantity of homemade Aloe vera gel for a recipe.

Treating The Leaf

To make a recipe for homemade Aloe vera gel, start with a large outer leaf of an aloe plant. Peel the leaf with a vegetable peeler or a paring knife. Cut away all the hard outer leaf so that just the watery, gel portion remains.

Blending The Gel

Using a blender or food processor, place the soft part of the leaf in the blender pitcher and blend until a soft gel forms and none of the plant fibers remain. Slowly add ingredients that will help preserve and process the gel.

For each one-quarter cup of Aloe vera in the blender pitcher, add 500 mg of powdered vitamin C and 400 IU of Vitamin E. Both vitamin E and vitamin C contain many of the antioxidants and soothing ingredients that Aloe vera contains, so it is natural that they should all blend together to form a soothing Aloe vera salve.

Store the homemade Aloe vera gel from the recipe for this home remedy in clean glass jars with lids. Use the gel as needed for sunburn, minor burns, skin irritations, minor cuts, wounds, or rashes. Refrigerated, this gel will maintain its effectiveness for several weeks, up to two months. For best results, store the gel in a dark container that blocks out light.

Powerful Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a member of the Asphodelaceae family, the genus Aloe, and the Species Aloe vera. Common health benefits of Aloe vera include treatment of skin disorders like eczema, cuts, burns, and rashes.

If the recipe for homemade aloe vera gel makes a large quantity of the gel, the extra gel can be added to cosmetics and skin treatment products such as soap, lotion, moisturizer, makeup remover, toothpaste, makeup, shampoo, and deodorant.

Aloe Vera In The Kitchen

Many cooks keep an Aloe vera plant on the kitchen window sill to treat minor cooking burns as soon as they occur. Perhaps the simplest recipe for homemade Aloe vera gel is simply to cut an opening in a thick, succulent Aloe vera leaf, squeeze the gel out of the cut, and apply the gel, fresh from the plant, to a burn or skin irritation. The healing properties of the Aloe vera gel will instantly reduce the temperature of the skin, reduce redness and swelling, promote healing of the wound and prevent scarring of the surface of the skin.

Although Aloe vera has many healing properties and is not toxic to the touch, nevertheless, individuals who make their own aloe vera gel and other products are advised to wear latex or rubber gloves when handling the leaves to protect their hands from the serrated edges of the leaves and from the concentrated chemicals in the leaves.
