Some Solar Power Information

There is no question that the sun generates power that is used all over the world. Solar power forms the basis of earth's nutritional system when it is stored in vegetation consumed by humans, fish, poultry and cattle. Solar power warms ocean currents and the air to make the movement that causes the weather. The heat of the sun can easily heat water directly or cook food with only the addition of reflective material. To convert solar power into a usable form like electricity takes some solar power information.

The Facts

In just twenty days, the sun releases as much energy to the earth as there is in all of the known sources of non-renewable energy on the planet. The solar power released in only forty minutes of sunshine us equal to the energy used by earth's population in one year. At this time, we only harness on per cent of the solar power we receive. The problem, of course, is the same as the nutritional problem. Since humans don't make chlorophyll, they need another way to convert its nutritional energy to usable form. So far, our solar power information technology is still not completely efficient. While we are able to make some small devices that can work entirely on solar power like calculators or wrist watches, we are still far short of extending that sort of solar power information to make larger devices. The solar calculators use a solar cell that converts sunshine directly to usable power. Most other solar power is generated using a solar panel or array that captures the power of the sun and stores it in batteries. These devices can convert about 15% of the sunlight it receives into electricity.

An interesting piece of solar power information is that solar panels need sunshine with a certain level of energy before they can operate. Low levels of energy do not activate the silicon mixture that is the important element of the panels. When sunlight is too diffused by clouds or the panels are not angled at the most efficient declination, no energy is captured. The panels can only be designed to capture a specific range of energy. If they are set too high, they miss the average range and collect too little. Set too low, and they use the equipment inefficiently - wasting energy to capture too little energy. As technology increases our solar power information, we will be able to use solar energy more efficiently and effectively.
